A 21st Century Curriculum - Widening Horizons!

At CHP we base our curriculum experiences of the 2014 National Curriculum. This includes:

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

Children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum when they enter school in Reception.  This curriculum is organised into seven areas of learning:
     - Personal, social and emotional development
     - Communication and language
     - Physical development
     - English
     - Mathematics
     - Understanding the World
     - Expressive arts and design

In the morning, the children work either in a guided group task or independently for English and Mathematics.  In the afternoons, the children participate in child-initiated activities.  They use the environment throughout the year in continuous provision activities which includes outdoor learning.  A smooth transition to Year 1 is achieved through a structured programme during the Summer Term.

The Curriculum in Years 1 to 6

Our curriculum is broad and balanced which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils and of society.  It also prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.  In 2014, the new National Curriculum was introduced and this has been embedded around the school.  There is a particular focus on developing English and Mathematics across the curriculum.  We also provide specialist teachers to deliver our PE curriculum in the school.

The school makes provision for a daily act of collective worship and we have regular visitors into school to help.  RE is taught in every year group and, although it is no longer a specific national curriculum subject, we still provide personal, social and health education (PSHE).
